Bremen port report

“There will be a shout to come!”~ Fun night in Sabbath week

Everyone is ready for something big. Big laughter, big surprise, big mess, you name it. There is no limitation for creativity tonight. If you were once in OM, you got the picture what I am talking here. From my personal opinion, this is one of the many reasons that motivate a ministry vividly coming back from negative spirit again and again. We need to be relaxed sometime! That was so much fun. Honestly. And from the drama of all kinds folk dances on the ship, funny skit about the info ladies, to the genuine “If I were not upon the stage of Doulos I would be…” planning meeting version, we had a good laugh thru the whole evening. And this time, I was happy that I didn’t take part of any of the performance or coordination. I could enjoy myself with all the others as an audience. Hey, you have no idea of what I am talking about? Come join the ship.

We’ll rock you! The DoulOLYMPIC game 2004

That Saturday afternoon is too much for many of us. Douloids grouped into teams of 10 or more. And each team had different color representing their identity. Guess what, the brown team people, in my opinion; they deserved a gold medal for just putting mud on their whole bodies. My team had green as our “theme”, mainly Asians, ladies. However, even I thought we were way too weak in any competition; we miraculously won a few games!! At the end of the day, we had a great water fight. And I tell you, revenge is sweet; it better served cold (Kill Bill). It is the time to mess with your boss and all the “spiritual” leaders on the ship. And the prize of the winners is ---- you might take a hot shower for 5 minutes! (the ship’s rule is for only 3!) Praise God for clean tab water in Germany!

BBQ, the reason we enjoy summer

For Germans, at least Northern Germans, it is part of life to have a BBQ for supper, 3 or 4 times a week. You have a fellowship meeting; BBQ. You invite friends for supper; BBQ. Meal after church service? another BBQ…. So at the last day of the first phase volunteers’ commitment, we went to a lake and had a farewell party. BBQ is a must. Man, these people love meat big time! Sausages, macerated pork and steak, chicken sticks, hams and hot dog etc, we had them all. That was a good time of fellowship. Honestly speaking, I got so many friends here, thru eating ministry…. Sorry my friends back home, you might not see a slim Ray this season! (mmm… there was never a slim Ray anyway). The summer time in Bremen is relaxing. You see people lying on the sand beach next to the river. You see people have beers around the table and the bars are full in the evenings. And the best thing is, the spending here is comparatively reasonable than all the other ports we have been visiting since Southampton. Good for “not-so-rich” missionaries like Douloids. The conclusion is, I will be back again, for the friendship, quite quality moments, and maybe a bottle of Beck’s.
